Topic 1 - Building CommunityHow does your learning contribute to whole community?

As a participant in this course, you may wonder what your role or expectations of participation may be. The objectives of this course are to offer educators the links and access to the digital information on the Maker Movement, Games-Based Learning and Coding in k12 Learning Environments.
There is no set timeline for this course for open learners. It will be an open course/network that you will be able to contribute to in your own way. This is one way that you could consider participating in this community:
Possible role as a course/community learner :
  • Join the #gamecode community
  • Tell the community about yourself and your goals
  • Use your experience and past knowledge to predict possible integration strategies for any (or all) of the following continuums: the maker movement, games based learning and coding in k12. Add your predictions to the Google Community in the "Predictions" Thread.
  • Interact with other learners in the community. Create your own interest groups and networks.
  • Add ideas and resources to the community.
  • Go through the resources in this wiki and go back to the continuums to add more of your insights and ideas.
  • Develop a strategy on how you can implement any or all of the the maker movement, games based learning and coding ideas in your k12.
  • In the "Future Steps" part of the Google Community [[#|Continue]] as part of the community solve problems and suggest strategies to integrate the maker movement, games based learning and coding into k12 learning environments.
  • If you are interested in Mozilla Open Badges, Consider the Badge Criteria for #gamecode Click HERE

This wiki will stay open and will be added to in order to offer an OER (Open Educational Resource) for anyone who needs it, whenever they need it. At the same time, the hope is that you will learn about the ideas from the wiki and add your perception of "how" and "where" you could integrate some of these ideas into your learning environments. With your help, the course and community will continue to develop as more educators consider the maker movement, games based learning and coding in their learning environments.

As such, you will define your own role within this community. It will be up to you to determine how, where and why you would like to participate.

Each day will have a "Daily Create". It is my hope that you consider the activity, experiment with the resources, reflect, then add your contribution to the community through twitter, the Google Community or directly on the continuums.

Together we can make a difference!
